Everything To Know About UK Beaches Dog Ban

Summer calls for holidays, and whether you’re jetting off to warmer climates or staying in the UK, many of us like to take our four-legged friends with us for the break. As the weather gets warmer, dogs have been banned from some beaches across the UK, according to Devon Live. Every year councils across the UK impose restrictions that stop dogs from visiting beaches during the busy summer seasons.

Some restrictions start from the end of April, running through to the end of September. Dog walkers will not be allowed on the beach at that part of the year. If you are found on a beach which has PSPO restrictions, you could face a fine of between £100 and £1,000.

However, we must say that a person who is registered blind under section 29 of the national Assistance Act 1948 is exempt from PSPOs, alongside any other individuals who have a disability which means they rely on an assistance dog.

See the list below to make sure that you don’t get caught out:

North Devon

Dogs are permitted on all North Devon Council-owned beaches. The provisions the local council has imposed are the same Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) imposed elsewhere in the district, including picking up after your dog and using a lead when requested.
